According to their web site they will begin accepting orders this Thursday! Did anyone else pre-register? And if so, have you received an email from them with some sort of discount code attached? I've been pre-registered for a few months and haven't received anything...

So, I answered my own question.... If anybody else pre-registered for the Sargent Seat, they will send out those emails on Wednesday night. Supposedly they will contain ordering information and some sort of discount code. Sweet....

So, about this seat.... One of my main motivations for buying a new seat for this bike, was to get a detachable back rest for the back seat. My wife and I use our bike as more of a sport touring set up than anything and she would love the extra support of a back rest. Well I knew that Sargent made one for the S bike but unfortunately they DONT HAVE ONE FOR THE R!!!

I guess they felt that the demand wasn't there to justify their R&D expenses... So, I called the company and talked to someone in their R&D department. He claimed that they are keeping track of demand and if enough people bug them to design a back rest then they'll do it....

If your interested in a detachable back rest for the rear passenger's seat on the K1200 R/SPORT then either call or email the head R&D person... Her name is MARY and her email is: Mary@Sargentcycle.com

Hopefully we can talk them into it....

I did the same thing. My wife loves to ride on the back of my k12r and I was really excited about the detachable backrest I saw for the k12s. I've already spoken with the R&D at Sargent. Hopefully they'll do something about it.

By the way, will a k12s seat fit on a k12r? Is there anyone else who makes a passenger backrest for the k12r? (Besides Corbin.)

rutabagaman No I don't think the K12s seat will fit which is why we have all waited so long for the 'R' version, ordered mine yesterday at the pre reg price, hope to see it sooner rather than later!!

Hi.
I pre registered and got the e mail, looks like a reasonable buy for the price with discount. Still need to look at it closer to see what bits you need to order with it (pod/rear seat etc) to see if it's useable, although just got back from Italy trip and only my neck is aching so do I need it? Probably not.

I pre-registered in December 07. I followed up with phone calls in March, May, and July. I was assured each time that the project was moving more slowly than originally estimated, and that the seats would be available in another month or two.

In October when I was passing through Jacksonville, I stopped by Sargent and asked about the project. I was told that they had sent out the e-mails a long time ago, and that the discount program for pre-registered folks was now over. I could order a seat. It would take about 6 weeks to get it. And the discount was no longer valid.

I expressed my disappointment, assured them that I had not gotten the e-mail (I had not gotten it... it must have been eaten by the spam filter at my isp). I shared my history of having had Sargent seats on many bikes, and my history of sharing my pleasure with their seats to many friends.

In a relatively short time I had a seat, and the discount, in hand. Just another example of Sargent working with the customer.

So what do I think now that I've ridden with this seat for a couple of months?

I really love it. I've got Sargent seats on all my bikes at this point, including two of their "off the shelf" aftermarket seats (K1200Rsport and Gen II FJR1300) and one that Bill built for me on a stock seat pan for my little BMW Xmoto. And I've had their seats on other bikes in the past.

I think these guys do a really great job. They will work with you to meet specific goals through their custom seat division. Their materials and workmanship are first quality. And they are always willing to listen and to try to make things right. Their warranty is excellent, and I have seen them bend over backwards to take care of issues even when the seat was purchased second hand.

Sargent is my seat supplier of first choice. I know YMMV, but for anyone on the east coast, its a lot easier to get first person service at Sargent than it is to make the trek out to northern California where all the other seat makers seem to reside (both Mayers, Russell, Corbin). If you want something customized, there's no substitute for an in person discussion with the rider, the bike, and the seat present.

Has anyone received your Sargent saddle for your K1200 R Sport yet? what do you think of it? mine seems to slope quite a bit leaving me pushing on my handlebars constantly to keep me from sliding forward... I sent them a few emails about it and they responded at first but after I sent pictures documenting that the seat is not level, they have ignored me...
